Being Agile in a Non-Agile World

Agility is the topic of the day with many organizations disenchanted with traditional software development processes in favor of lightweight processes that focus on delivery and team dynamics.  But these organizations are often finding the adoption of these small, agile approaches hard to implement as the organizations are neither small, nor agile in nature.  They are also finding the promise of agility is often compromised in response to  the need for prediction, planning, and financial controls.  Project managers are trying to balance the needs of the organization whilst enabling teams to deliver software faster and of higher quality.  In this paper we discuss how to implement agile thinking in the context of both well defined engineering practices and an organization’s Software Development Lifecycle.
